Ray and I are originally from the Boston area. We moved to Florida twenty-one years ago, when he was transferred with his position for Continental Airlines to the Tampa airport. I'm a Registered Nurse and an author.
We began visiting Cedar Key about fifteen years ago and fell in love with both the beauty of the island and the community on our first visit. Over the years we discussed possibly relocating here when Ray retired. Our dream became a reality in February of 2005 when we moved here permanently.
Although I was raised as a "city girl" I immediately knew I was in my element. I love the small town atmosphere, where people still wave to one another and actually know your name. I'm captivated by all that Mother Nature has to offer. From being surrounded by water, to the wildlife, to the fresh seafood available. And as a writer, I'm constantly surrounded by inspiration. Cedar Key is a haven for writers, artists and photographers.
From the moment we moved here, I've never looked back. Chiefland is a traffic-free 45 minute drive away with a Super Walmart, Winn-Dixie, other shops and restaurants. Gainesville is a one hour drive with the University, major shopping and cultural events.
Not a day passes that I don't feel extremely grateful to be living here. I feel it's been a fair trade-off to leave the stress of city life behind in order to enjoy this slice of paradise.
And now.....we're inviting you to come and visit. Forget the traffic. Our island doesn't have one traffic light. Golf carts, walking and bikes are the best way to get around. Forget the stress. Chill out and relax as you listen to the birds, see the mullet jumping, the pelicans diving and watch the stars in the night sky.
